Our Journey

Over a decade of empowering developers, students, and researchers through open-source software.

  1. AOSSIE's First Projects

    2011

Three of AOSSIE's foundation projects (Skeptik/Scavenger, Carbon Footprint for Google Maps, and Mind the Word) were established by Dr. Bruno Woltzenlogel Paleo and began participating in GSoC under the CSE@TU-Wien organization.

  2. Official AOSSIE Foundation

    2016

Dr. Bruno Woltzenlogel Paleo formally established the Australian Open Source Software Innovation and Education (AOSSIE) while serving as a senior researcher at the Australian National University.

  3. First Autonomous GSoC Participation

    2016

AOSSIE participated in Google Summer of Code independently for the first time, mentoring students globally. The Agora electronic voting project became AOSSIE's flagship fourth project.

  4. Not-For-Profit Charity Status

    2017

AOSSIE was legally registered as an independent non-profit organization in Australia (ABN: 32 743 493 466), dedicated to open-source innovation and education.

  5. Innovation Acceleration & Web3

    2020

AOSSIE expanded its project ecosystem into decentralized finance, zero-knowledge proofs, emerging AI models, and peer-to-peer communication technologies.

  6. Stability Nexus Sub-Organization

    2022

AOSSIE's blockchain and decentralized finance projects were consolidated under the Stability Nexus sub-organization to accelerate protocol development.

  7. AI-Powered Open Source Education

    2025–2026
